Well, it’s been a long time since we posted about what we’ve been doing around the Mielke household, so I’ll try to fit as much of the last few months into this post without being too long-winded. We spent Christmas with my side of the family in Keystone, Colorado and got to spend some time skiing and wandering around the mountain towns. After Christmas we settled into our new routine of Emily working and the kids going to daycare. Emily was working as a temp until March, where she was offered a permanent position at The Integer Group, which is an advertising/marketing firm here in Lakewood. She’s been loving it, and it’s so nice to have her on permanently and not constantly wondering if her contract would be renewed. The kids have been doing well in “school.” Hanna’s teacher has told us the past couple days that Hanna’s vocabulary is rapidly expanding and that she’s a “real talker” at school. Jay gets glowing reports from his teachers on how well-behaved he is and how well he’s been napping, both of which are the exact opposite of how he’s been at home. Emily and I have been exhausted lately and a lot of it has to do with the kids. Jay is definitely testing boundaries around the household and has been sassing us constantly. His friends at school play “power rangers” and similar games, so he’s learning all about fighting. I guess it has to happen eventually, but we’re still watching shows like “Little Bear” and “Mickey Mouse” around our house, so when he comes home talking about cutting people in half with a sword it’s a little disconcerting. Hanna’s not anymore innocent than Jay in the behavior realm recently. She’s getting a bunch of teeth all at once and is letting mom and dad know about it constantly. She’s gotten quite the temper and seems to be constantly fussing. However, she has picked up one hilarious habit from daycare. Her teachers taught her to hold her hand out and say “Walk Away” because she is so tiny and all the bigger kids would crowd around her and upset her. So now she walks around the house hitting Jay in the face and saying “walk away.” Emily and I have had quite a few laughs seeing our 20 pound peanut pushing around her 35 pound big brother…it won’t be long until they are both pushing each around constantly 🙂 Other than the temper tantrums and discipline issues around the house, everything has been going very well. Hanna and Jay (when they aren’t fighting) are becoming best buddies. As I write this blog they are snuggling each other on the couch watching “Rapunzel.” Jay asked me to stop snuggling him and specifically asked for Hanna to sit by him and snuggle. It’s great to see them becoming so close.
Another big event was that Hanna was baptized on March 3rd. We had Hanna’s godparents in town from Silver City, New Mexico and had a party for Hanna after the church service. Everything went well, except for after the service we tried to get a family picture and Jay punched me in the face because he didn’t want his picture taken. Luckily, the Lord’s presence overcame me and the His mercy was bestowed on Jay. I don’t even think Jay got a spanking for that one. One of the church personnel took pictures of Hanna’s baptism and we’re still waiting to get the pictures. Once we do, I’ll post them on the blog. I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head, so I’ll end the blog with some pictures from the last couple months. And like I said previously, I’m going to try and be more diligent about blogging. It probably won’t be a daily event like it used to be when the kids were less mobile, but I’ll try to get one up at least weekly with pictures of the family and an update on what we’ve done recently. We love you all and are happy to get back to blogging! (P.S. I just realized I put all the photos in weird places on this blog…hopefully I’ll get better at this stuff as time goes on).
