– egg carton cut to desired length
– pipe cleaners
We had fun reading one of our favorite books and turning it into a craft. I finished our eggs today and thought the carton would be such a great craft tool. So I hit google and found some cute egg carton ideas. A caterpillar came up and I couldn’t resist making it into a “preschool-esque” activity. Jay enjoyed it and it turned out pretty cute!
So we LOVE Tatertot Hotdish. We are from the Midwest after all and anything carb loaded and comforting is an instant hit with our family. I came across this recipe on pinterest and my jaw dropped. Tatertot Hotdish for breakfast?!?!!! The clouds parted and angels sang.
I made this today for the kids and they gobbled it up without the usual mealtime bribery or fighting. That is a win in my book. I halved the recipe because we’re low on just about everything and I didn’t want to commit to a 9×13 failure. But luckily it was a success and I know Colin’s going to be bummed he missed this breakfast treat!

It’s been a while since I posted on our blog, but seeing as how busy Emily is lately and how active the household is with two kids walking/running everywhere, I thought it might be a good time to start up again. Plus, with most of our pictures on our phones now, it’s easy to upload any photos I take to our blog, even while the kids are still awake!
I took the picture of Hanna below on the 4th of July as she was climbing up our neighbor’s steps. The picture of Jay is from when Emily had a Stella & Dot show downtown and I took the kids sight-seeing while she was working. I took a little artistic liberty with both photos…the phone apps make it so easy to turn our regular pictures into cool looking photographs, and sometimes I just can’t help myself.
Hopefully this is the start of a long-term commitment to keep family and friends updated on the Mielke household, but if I get lazy again, forgive me, Emily is much better about staying on top of the communication stuff.
We love you all and are excited for the upcoming family reunions!
Life is so crazy in our house whether we are busy with actual activities or just busy making sure our kids stay alive. Having little ones so close in age is nuts 24/7. So I haven’t been blogging much because at the end of the day I just don’t have the energy. So here are some random pictures of outings (Colorado Railroad Museum, Rockies Game, family hikes), Jay’s “big owie” (the gash in his head from running into the kitchen counter), and other moments. I hope this satiates the grandmas for a few days. 🙂
Unfortunately our 4th lacked a little sparkle this year due to the firework ban in CO. We weren’t even allowed to have sparklers and that sort of bummed me out. However I totally understood and who needs a spark from a stupid firecracker setting another wildfire. So we made the best of it and enjoyed the 4th in our own way.
On the 3rd the kids and I hit up the Lakewood on Parade fair. It was cute and low key and Jay enjoyed himself. He got his face painted for the first time which was precious and almost everything there was free. Love.
On the actual holiday, we lived it up and fully enjoyed daddy being home on a Wednesday. We took the kids on a morning and evening bike ride and soaked up the sun at our community pool. Hanna fell asleep wrapped in a towel and looked so precious snoozing away. We grilled brats and corn for dinner and even enjoyed chocolate covered strawberries. It was a great way to spend the day as a fam.
We hope you enjoyed your day off too. 🙂
I signed Jay up for “My First Art Class” at the cultural center and our first class was today.
I’m obsessed with it.
He had so much fun. I’m telling you, everything about this class was perfect for him. The time of day was perfect, the duration was perfect, the supplies were perfect, the subject matter was perfect. The teacher is this adorable free spirit artist lady with a stuffed dog named Splat (like an ink splatter… Seriously? CUTE!).
I can’t wait for next week!
